Women’s March: Signs of the Times

Last Sunday millions of people worldwide took to the streets to send a message.  The election of Donald Trump provoked an outpouring of emotions, much of it expressed in sign language.

I was with half a million marchers in Washington, DC.   A turnout much larger than the inauguration that preceded it, and focused on a President who believes in “alternative facts”.  Anger mixed with the joy of a shared vision for a more inclusive and “kinder”country.

A number of signs reflected the concerns of environmentalist Bill McKibben:  “It’s clear that we’re about to witness the steady demolition, or attempted demolition, of the environmental protections that have been put in place over the past five decades.”
